Program Details
Your Algonquin Park VIP private electric canoe trip follows in the footsteps of one of Canada's greatest painters, Tom Thomson. Our motorized canoe comfortably takes 2 passengers (462lbs/210kg max. with cameras/bags) on an unforgettable guided exploration of Algonquin Park's historic Canoe Lake. The 3 hour adventure is split 80% silent electric motor and 20% paddling (by your guide). This tour is perfect for those who want to relax or have their hands free for photography/sketching. Your adventure includes effortless travel across Canoe Lake, a visit to Tom Thomson's cairn & local ruins, a scenic picnic (Henrietta's sandwich & granola bar or breakfast pastries & organic coffee), hunting beautiful scenery reflections while paddling down a meandering stream system and a chance to cool off at a secluded swimming hole. All ages and fitness levels are welcome - we've had participants between 8 months and 82 years old on this adventure. VIP tours are usually guided by Algonquin Adventure Tours founder, Stuart Lorne Letovsky.
This tour has two areas of focus:
1) Algonquin Park Landscape and Wildlife Photography Workshop Tour - For those who are serious about their Algonquin Park photography. Your guide prefers shooting with a Canon 7D Mark 2 and has helped countless amateurs and professionals achieve wall hanging perfection. Although we can't guarantee seeing a moose (consider our safari for that), other wildlife, awe inspiring reflections and spectacular natural panoramas will make memories for a lifetime.
2) Tom Thomson & Algonquin Park History Tour - Algonquin Park was Tom Thomson's inspiration. And this tour will inspire you, by literally walking in the footsteps of Tom Thomson. Your guide will recount a vast knowledge of all things Thomson & Algonquin. The tour will visit the locations Tom Thomson lived, worked, painted and paddled. We can even pay respect, at his former gravesite, in the old Mowat Village cemetery.

With limited space and rave reviews, our tours fill up quickly. So, please make your reservations (see below) early.
Although we have encountered moose, deer, beaver, muskrat, heron, loon, turtle, frog, bear, racoon and fish on our Algonquin Park day trips, as with all wilderness tours, animal encounters are a rather random and rare occurrence. However, a skilled guide definitely increases the chances of a memorable and safe educational adventure. And please note that our multiday canoe safaris offer the best opportunities for successful wildlife (moose & beaver) observation.
Wind on the open water can make temperatures feel 10 degrees colder, so please dress accordingly. Please also note that on windy days clients can get a tad wet from wave spray, but we have good ponchos for clients, if required.
Custom tours are always available - just contact us for more information. Trips are run rain or shine (as long as there is no lightning). We may delay departure by up to 1 hour. Refund/credits will be only be issued if a trip is canceled for lightning. Life jackets are provided and MUST be worn at all times.
Participants will need to purchase their car day permit at either entrance gate to Algonquin park, or at the Ontario parks office at the far end of the stony beach where we meet.
