Workshop Details
Learn how to safely canoe trip from the Algonquin Park guiding experts with 25 years (in 2021) of professional canoe tripping instruction experience. Our introduction to canoe tripping workshop course will cover the following topics:
  • Permits, regulations, etiquette & safety
  • Basic canoeing (canoe rescue  participants must get completely wet)
  • Basic map reading & route planning
  • Portaging
  • Campsite selection & set up
  • Fire making
  • Food preparation
  • Food storage (bear hang)
  • Animal signs & tracks
  • Ethical wildlife observation & photography
  • Leave no trace principals

This mixed group 3 day introduction to Algonquin Park canoe tripping workshop will provide all the basic canoe camping skills required for safe flatwater canoe travel. Please note that this group course is a proprietary Algonquin Adventure Tours program based on our 25 years (in 2021) of professional canoe tripping instruction. As much as we enjoy repeat business, the purpose of this canoe tripping course is to provide participants with the basic knowledge, skills and confidence to safely enjoy a future self-guided canoe trip. All Algonquin Adventure Tours canoe instructors are full time canoe trip guides with related post secondary education and credentials.

No experience is required, but all participants (except ages 7-9) must be able to paddle hard for at least 4-6 hours/day during this canoe trip workshop. Steering a boat will only be offered to those age 14+ and who are physically strong enough.

This workshop is the same as our Algonquin Park 3 day moose, beaver & loon canoe trip safari, so participants will enjoy the same short portage, scenic views, wildlife observation, exciting cliff jumping, gourmet camp food, Algonquin Park nature and history interpretation, and profound natural connections. You can see additional photos here.
